Spinifex (L.A.) was asked to help innovate the way the public experience and consume content when visiting the Nissan exhibit at auto shows. Part of the response to this brief was to develop a location-aware HTML5 mobile app that enabled visitors to engage with the brand on a self-guided interactive tour of the space that included audio commentary, product information, and other playful engagements.
THE SETUP
Multiple RFID readers were placed in various positions throughout the Nissan exhibit space. Visitors were given Nissan-branded headsets that include a RFID chip and directed to register/pair the headset with our node server. We were then able to know a visitor's location in the space and use socket.io to send relevant content to their handset.
MY ROLE
My role included JavaScript development - creating interactive 'sketches' then fleshing out successful sketches and implementing to the larger app, node and socket.io programming, application optimization and writing grunt tasks, creating bespoke tracking/analytics system, as well as back-end CMS development with PHP, on-site installation, server setup and maintenance, on-site training of Nissan Product Specialists, and presentation to clients and other project stakeholders.
