AllofUs were asked to design and develop several exhibits for the King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The center was commissioned by the King of Saudi Arabia to encourage, excite and inform the Saudi youth of today about the benefits and innovations of atomic and renewable energies. Part of the brief called for two large LED displays that deliver dynamic content to attract people into the exhibit.
THE SETUP
The 34m x 1.5m LED display on the left as well as the 48m x 4.5m LED curtain on the right were driven with dynamic content fed by a bespoke Adobe Air application. Exhibition staff are able to update content in real time as the displays run allowing them to keep content fresh or cater to visits from VIPs.
MY ROLE
I lead development of the LED render clients using Adobe Air with the RobotLegs framework and the very handy AS3 Signals library. These applications pull fresh content from a bespoke CMS, compose it with dynamic graphics, then draw it to LED screens. This job required close collaboration with the LED hardware providers and various internal teams to ensure the client was happy with the end result.
